COACHING/GOAL

Andre’s private coaching gives you the freedom and tools to help you discover your inner self. Method acting helps you feel the required emotion reliably, take after take. Many of today's leading actors and Acadamy award winners (including Meryl Streep, Robert de Niro, Al Pacino, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga) find the Strasberg method to be very beneficial to shaping their talent.
Like these actors, you also can learn how to move an audience and have them experience your life with you on film or on stage with the Strasberg method.

He helps you to:

● Get rid of inhibitions that creates blockage

● Eliminate bad habits of voice and movement, so that you can express your own uniqueness

● Make use of the process of conditioning and creative imagination

● Become great actors with interesting behavior and imagination

● Allow your impulses to surface, revealing your inner life and subtext

● Create true life on stage instead of merely being believable

● Enhance your knowledge of human psychology

● Go beyond the writer's words and intentions so that you can elevate the material and make it your own and give it your own color

● Learn how to interpret life in all its facets so that your experience can be called upon to use in the expression of your art.

● Become emotionally free so that your body, mind, spirit, thoughts and voice are able to come together into one true and full expression

● Create real feelings and thoughts under imaginary circumstances

Andre knows how important it is to be yourself and accept yourself, including your strengths and your weaknesses.  He knows that in order to succeed, you must first conquer your fears and hesitation.

Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Sandy Meisner and Michael Chekhov all based their style of teaching on Stanislavski.  So, it is unwarranted to say that one is better then the other.  It all depends on the needs of the actor.  The end results should all be the same - to find the best way for YOU to become a great and truthful actor.

"To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow.  So do it." (Kurt Vonnegut)

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."  (Winston Churchill)

Depending on the size and duration of the classes, training can be done as regular classes or more intensive master classes.

The exercises begin with relaxation, which are necessary in order to perform well. They will also open you up and bring out your true personality. All great actors who are trained sufficiently can find this relaxation within 2 to 5 minutes. The same applies to sense memory exercises. When done well and with enough practice, you can find yourself in the right emotional state within 2 to 5 minutes. Sense memory exercises are created by sensorially experiencing a breakfast drink, an overall sensation, a personal object, a private moment and an affective memory.

Animal exercises can be effective in character behavior. Other exercises are also used to help you get in touch with your acting instrument. One of them is the "Song and Dance" exercise, created by Lee Strasberg himself. It helps you rid yourself of inhibitions and learn how to synchronize the voice with the body so that you can repeat and be in command of your actions. Hopefully, you will then be able to apply the work from these exercises to your monologues, your scene work and your improvisation.

Improvisation can help you find some elements of characterization that are not necessarily provided in the script. It is essential to the process of intention where it forces you to listen and better develop a sense of "first time." It also allows you to be spontaneous and display more interesting behavior and imagination.

All of these qualities are imperative in order to become an excellent actor.

Last Autumn I attended Method Acting class at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. I decided to follow the program with the Teacher Andre Landzaat and I can say that has been the best choice I've ever made in that school!

With Andre I felt completely free to show my feelings and emotions; he never judges your work if you do it with passion and interest. During the 12 weeks program, I grew up so much thanks to his teachings: the Relaxation and all the other exercises was always managed by Andre, who gave us great advices to let our impulses run through our mind and body. He never wants you to repress your imagination and that's the only way to become alive on the stage and be a good actor. I learnt more with Andre in 3 months than in my entire life studying acting! Andre showed me how Method Acting is the only way to teach yourself how to bring your inner life as an actor on the stage and how to run it during the scene or in front of the camera.

I feel lucky to have had the possibility of attending his classes, and I can't wait to work with him again!

I had the honor to study with one of the most prestigious teachers from Lee Strasberg, Andre Landzaat. His knowledge of The Method of Acting was so vast, it not only taught me how to apply a technique, but to have passion and commitment for my craft. His expertise of teaching and performance was a game changer in regards to my learning process and expectations. I'll always be grateful for being a part of his master class.

Max Encina, Los Angeles

"Andre Landzaat is the most experienced method coach I have ever worked with. The fact that he has worked with Lee Strasberg himself makes his knowledge of the Method rare and unique. He has helped me to get to my emotions for sophisticated scenes with the right preparation and relaxation. He is not only a good coach, but also a great human being, which helps me as a young actor to get rid of the insecurity and nervousness. I will always be thankful for his valuable lessons."

Julian Schaffner, Zurich

Andre helped me tap into my creative instincts. He could pinpoint when I was resisting being truly vulnerable in a scene and encouraged me to go deeper into the work. I experienced great moments of personal truth in his class that reminded me why it is so thrilling to be an actor.

Adam Ray, Los Angeles

Andre is a great teacher.  He helped me see what was unclear, which helped me to become a better actress.

Sina Platzer, Berlin

"Andre has taught me how to get rid of my inhibitions as an actor and follow my instincts when on stage. What I loved the most about his classes was the fact that he would give us the freedom to be ourselves during relaxation and the sense memory exercises without steering away from Lee Strasberg's technique and always encouraging us to open up as much as possible. I think the best thing about him is that he manages to create a safe environment for his students, I never felt like I was being judged, and being able to trust your teacher is crucial in order for you to take in what they're saying and apply it to the work."

Patricia Peixoto, Rio de Janeiro

" André Landzaat helped me to discover what the inner  Life means for an actor through the journey of Method Acting. His patience , his listening, his great knowledge of the Method pushed me to understand what it means to take risks as an actress and as a humain being . I would definitely say that he is one of the best Teachers I've ever had in my artistic journey ! Thank you Andre !"

Andre once handed me a picture of a mother elephant and her baby;

Their trunk up in the air, smile on their faces, they seemed excited and

happy.  At first I didn't quite understand.. Then he said; you see those

faces?  This is how real you should be on stage!  Be real.  You are the

character!

Dear Andre,
I just wanted to share my thoughts on your course, I enjoyed so much. A combination of two things made this class magnificent. First, you are able to provide a safe and protected environment for us students to open up and fail. This is the foundation for your core strength. Second, and more important, you are able to push your students to sense memories where they are truly vulnerable. Very personal moments with unwanted, beautiful, real and forgotten truths and emotions. You let us see ourself and then you don't judge. That you won't judge and just accept the truth as an actors tool, dear Andre, is your greatest gift and makes you a wonderful teacher.
A very honest and truley delighted student of yours.

If I wouldn't mean it I couldn't say it.
All the best!

It is insane how much this man has taught me about acting in just a few weeks. I have learned so much about acting, about relaxing and how to feel comfortable and not ashamed whilst doing a scene. Everything Andre has taught me I have been able to put to use in all of my auditions. He also is willing to help you with auditions if your struggling and gives you the best tips on how to film a good self tape, or how to do a solid audition.

I am so happy about what I have learned in his class, and hope that one day our paths will cross again.

Much Love,

Andre Landzaat was my first acting coach, and so to say that I came to him without a clue as to what I was doing (in regards to acting) would be an understatement. He's helped me profoundly in finding and getting to know my inner emotional landscape, for which I shall always be grateful, professionally but also personally. I came to him stumbling about in the dark - when it came to true acting, and the more I work with him, the more I feel I know myself as an actress and emotional entity, and the more I feel strong and able to express and move around through the craft of acting.

In February 2018 André Landzaat gave a masterclass of Method Acting to a group of theatre- and drama teachers in Utrecht, which I attended. It was very valuable to hear about and experience myself the way of acting the Method really stands for. I experienced André as a teacher with a lot of love for the work, techniques and life itself. He knows how to create an atmosphere of timelessness in which you get the chance to open the “zipper” to your inner depths and your sense memory. He offers exercises to act from a relaxed body and mind, with the goal to find your impulses, trust them and let them come out, for being present on stage in a truthful and convincing way. Because of this weekend I got a lot of inspiration to deepen my own work with amateur actors.

Working with Andre was a wonderful experience for me. It helped me grow as an actress and as a person. It is not just the method itself, it's the way he is teaching it. Even in the short period of time he helped me take control over my emotions and abilities, connect with myself and understand how to create a much deeper and unique performance. Towards the end of the course I had a play for the international festival. It was the first time I acted using the method and got the best actress award for the "implementation of extraordinary female character". Needles to say, everything Andre taught me played a significant role in that.

Andre has a lifetime of experience with the Strasberg method and worked with the crème de la crème of the industry which makes him one of the most sought-after acting teacher in Europe and beyond. His tutoring allowed me to go deeper with my emotions, perform multi-layered performances and truly elevate my potential as an actor."
Thank you Andre for the past 10 weeks. I really feel like I improved and that Strasberg works for me. Hope to see you again along the way. Best wishes. Max.

Andre Landzaat, one can say that a few months ago I could barely say that such a name exists on Earth. And now I can say that I will never ever in my life forget his name.
Andre is a creative, charismatic, kind and creative wise man. Andre's acting teaching technique gives me more then just bringing the truth on stage. You will also break your protective wall and discover who you really are. You will discover back your feelings, emotions and memories.
His classes have always been enriching, entertaining and funny. He is a great mentor and manage to challenge everyone to his best. I can only strongly recommend him to everyone.

Oliver, Slovakia 2018

"With your classes you can reach one's potential through authenticity and fearlessness. It was a catharsis that I underestimated when it was happening. I wish I had kept a diary - the memory and intensity fade."

Lisa Biersay, USA

"To mark the end of the Strasberg method course at he Mulholland Academy, given by Andre Landzaat, I performed a monologue. I can honestly say that this is the first time in my life I didn't feel like I was acting.
I was experiencing, which is what the Strasberg method is all about.
Thank you Andre for an amazing trimester at the Academy."

SPOTLIGHT: Andre Landzaat in House of Talents

ABOUT ANDRE

Andre Landzaat was born and raised in The Hague, The Netherlands. As a young man, he left Holland to study two years in Paris with Ives Furet whose teachings were based on the method of Lee Strasberg. His acquaintance, Edward Albee, encouraged him to journey to New York where he could study with Strasberg, the master himself, privately at Carnegie Hall. During that time, Andre collaborated work with such talents as Shelley Winters, Robert de Niro, and Al Pacino.

He was also influenced by the trainings of Peggy Feury and Warren Robertson. As a lifelong member of Theatre West, Andre first learned to sing from close friend Betty Garrett, acclaimed performer and moderator of the musical workshop.

Later, as a seasoned actor, Andre became a lifetime member of the Actors Studio. He portrayed the role of Rolf from "Judgment at Nuremberg" at the Actors Studio for a documentary on Maximillian Schell, who was present in the audience himself and praised Andre for his performance.

Because Andre spoke with a marked Dutch accent, his friend Tennessee Williams encouraged him to look for acting experiences in Los Angeles, where television and film opportunities should be more available to him.

Andre’s first award in Los Angeles came when he received a Soapy Award from SOAP OPERA DIGEST for portraying Tony Cassadine on "General Hospital." Breaking all records for daytime drama viewership, the show earned over 14 million viewers per Nielsen Media Research. Its success even encouraged Elizabeth Taylor to join the cast as Helena Cassadine, Tony's sister-in-law.

When Dutch television became aware of Andre's success in America, he was invited to play Rudolf Stikker in "Medisch Centrum West" in 1988 and Wim Driessen in the 2000's production of "Westenwind.”

Andre went on to teach at the highly acclaimed Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles.

Currently, he resides in the Netherlands and continues to conduct method acting classes in Amsterdam for fresh and eager talent from around the world. Recently, Andre held masterclasses in Almere at RJB Studios and in Amsterdam at the Lucidare Acteer School.

When time allows, he enjoys both private coaching and conducting workshops and master classes throughout Europe.

André is currently living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He coaches privately and teaches classes throughout Europe and in his own studio in Amsterdam. To contact André directly with any questions or ideas, please complete and send the following information:
